COILING
Yvonne Salazar, Sita Valenzuela (Philippines, 15 min; 2021)
LINGKIS (2021) mixes mythology, animation, and documentary to tell the story of a country plunged into darkness from the Marcos to Duterte regimes by a mythological serpent, whose only hope is the light people bring to fight against it.
MATKA/POLKA
Joanna Suchomska (Poland, 15 min; 2022)
MATKA / POLKA [MOTHER / POLE] is a meditation on what it means to be a woman in today’s Polish society. As a collection of stories – all verbatim – from waiting rooms, gynaecology chairs, abortion clinics, and bedrooms, the documentary bears witness to everyday acts of patriarchy and systemic violence. Adopting a poetic visual language, MATKA / POLKA breaks the taboo around the experiences, emotions and identity of Polish women who have faced the country’s strict reproductive policy and social prejudices to make decisions about their own life and body.
WHEN GRASS GROWS
María Monreal Otano (Spain, 3 min; 2022)
To wonder is to grow. Because not everything is easy to understand… even when you’ve grown up.
RAWA
Camille Toulmé (France, 12 min; 2021)
Little Rawa lives in a Syrian refugee camp on the northern border of Lebanon. With her brothers and sisters, she grew up in the camp like in a huge playground and no longer wants to leave. Rateebah, her mother, does everything to prevent her children from isolating themselves from the outside world and detaching themselves from it definitively. By force of circumstances and time, Rawa and Rateebah will have to adapt.
BABYGIRL
Clara Gamiz Jaimez (Spain, 16 min; 2022)
Sara, creative and insecure, has to study for an important exam but instead of studying, she takes refuge in her friends and in the nightlife to avoid her financial problems and worries about the future. Sara escapes from studying by partying, but deep down she has some artistic concerns that could help her find her true path.
