Women in Cinema

Women In Cinema is the non-competition program of the 8th Short Movie Club Film Festival “NEFILTRAVANAE KINO”. Women are involved in the film industry in all roles, including film directors, actresses, cinematographers, film producers, film critics, and other film industry professions, though women have been underrepresented in creative positions. The total length of the films is 59 minutes.

New Test 123 is a part of Flammable Formula series. We assembled this arthouse film from strands of thoughts on intersectional feminism floating through culture. New Test 123 is postmodern in character. We invite our viewer to participate in creative freedom by constructing their own narrative for the piece. < Website>

Katharina Nesterowa (Germany, 19 min)

When the young translator Medya is threatened by her family at night, she takes refuge in the apartment with her boss Nina, a war journalist.Over time, the isolation and proximity lead to an escalation revealing the different privileges of both women.

The film negotiates the margins in the relationship of two women between work, friendship and love. Cultural differences and definitions of freedom blur the boundaries between power, dependence and desire.

WWW {The Whale Who Wasn’t}

Alessia Cecchet (US, 10 min)

WWW {the whale who wasn’t} is a tale of conquest and destruction. Utilizing fragments of early educational films and animation, the piece develops a sci-fi counter-narrative of subjugation and annihilation told from a non-human perspective.

Visiting her Grandmother in Brazil, after years living abroad, Mariana sets out to the farm where she lives. Even though everything looks the same as her childhood memories, more profound changes soon come to light, questioning her memory and the love they share.
